Bildt Architects
At the intersection of research, practice and education Bildt Architects was born long ago, when multiple collaborations begun to crystalize. Since then, we have wanted to keep a spirit of collaboration and collegiality as the source for architectural intelligence. This last episode presented in digital format is just the snapshot of an ongoing project currently taking place.
Laia Celma
Founding partner of Bildt Architects. Laia is a licensed architect from the Escola Tècnica Superior d’Arquitectura de Barcelona (Etsab, Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya) with over 20 years of experience.
In 2023, Laia received the Obel Teaching Fellowship from the Henrik F. Obel Foundation, which supports research and teaching in the M.ARCH program at the Pontificia Universidad Católica in Santiago de Chile (Marq), 2024-2027. The project is centered on Isla Riesco in Chilean Patagonia and investigates the geo-environmental impact and planetary trace of coal extraction on the island.
The ongoing research project “Sentinel Lands,” with Pep Avilés, examines the environmental, social, and human health impacts of coal mines. The project has been exhibited in different formats at the Oslo Architecture Triennale, Penn State University, and the Carnegie Museum of Art, where it was part of Unsettling Matter, Gaining Ground, a collaborative exhibit narrating the complex stories of how fossil fuel economies have been produced and upheld.
In the past, Laia has taught at Penn State University (2018-2024) and collaborated as a Project Architect with international architecture firms such as Foreign Office Architects (2005-2008) in London and Snøhetta (2010-2018) in New York.
